Case study - Civil repair of highly corrosive Area

Problem: The concerned industrial building of 20-year-old and exposed to aggressive C5X zone of Salt / Fluorine manufacturing unit.

  • Most of exterior column and beam are very bad condition, having developed structural cracks, plaster cacks in longitudinal direction. These cracks are primarily due to excessive corrosion of the exiting rebars.
  • At many places the slab and beams have suffered spalling of the concrete cover and rebars have been exposed.
  • Corrosion in the bar can be attributed to fact that concrete of theses column may have been carbonated.
  • corrosion of the reinforcement. It is necessary that while carrying out the repairs, in members in which the rebars are badly corroded.

Solution: Preliminary evaluation, development of estimate, Erection of scaffolding , structural strengthen with Advance technology for rehabilitation of salt plant.

  • Chipping of all the loose concrete till all the rebars are exposed.
  • Neutrazling all exposed structure area by multiple water washing.
  • Anti-corrosive treatment of all exposed rebars by rust convertor and zinc rich primer.
  • Application of epoxy bonding agent on entire chipped off surface.
  • For Column: Use for structural strengthen with Jacketing by micro-concrete.
  • For Beam & Slab: Plastering by polymer modified mortar.
  • Anti carbonation coating on concrete surface& heigh performance anti corrosive coating MS structure.
  • Corrosion protection by bipolar corrosion inhibiting caplets is the most suitable methodology where the chipping & treatment of rebars is not possible. Hence it is recommended that for all building these caplets shall be provided to provide a long-lasting protection to rebars.
